This is the last report on making the Cub wheels.
I am amazed at how light this laminated balsa wheel is even with the
aluminum tube in the center. The picture below shows the wheel on my Acculab
scale,
which weighs rounded up to the nearest gram. The
read out shows one gram so the wheel weighs somewhere between 1/2 and 1-1/2
grams.
To shape the second wheel, I laid the drill press
down on its back. Here you see the wheel spinning in a vertical plane
(stop action)
and the sanding board I use for shaping.
This shows the two little fat Cub wheels on their
landing gear wire axles. Again, the wire axles get cut off, a retainer is
installed, and then the hub caps get installed in the recess on the
