60 J-3 Cub
Window Cut Outs & Wing Lettering Trim
This afternoon I carefully cut out the yellow
doped tissue around all of the windows as shown below. I will have to start
on the windows and windshield next.
I also glued on the rudder as shown below. The
1/8" thick stab is installed in the 3/16" slot in the fuselage, but will not
be glued down until the stab incidence is determined during flight test.
Notice also the aluminum tube motor peg is also installed.
This is a shot of the left side of the entire
fuselage assembly. You got to admit, it is beginning to actually look a
little like a J-3 Cub don't you think? I still have to figure out how to
make the little exhaust manifolds for each side.
I used the AmarilloUSAF font in MS Word and
sized the wing letters/numbers to 239. I cut them out as a unit and laid
them on the top of the wing as shown below. This is compared with
the scale J-3 Cub drawing in the upper part of the picture to show that
the letters/numbers are fairly close to the right proportions of the real
Cub.
When I tried to cut the lettering out in black
tissue, I made a horrible and complete mess of the whole thing. So I
contacted my good friend Steve Bruno up in Oklahoma City and he is going
to cut two sets of them out of black tissue and mail them to me. However, he
uses a simpler font like that shown below on my T-Bird Wing, except the
letters will be vertical instead of slanted. Steve does an outstanding job
on tissue letters and numbers................Tandy
