 "Cloudster" Construction Project Session #5

Speed 400 Cloudster Project

It was a beautiful day outside today, but it was busy in the house. First there was breakfast, then clean up kitchen, strip and remake the bed with clean linens, do three loads of laundry, and fold and put them up. Then a trip to the cleaners and to the store. In between and off and on all day, I worked enough on the Cloudster's fuselage to taper the tail post and glue in all of the cross members as shown below.

Each 3/16" side was trimmed and tapered down at the rear to a 3/32" width. The two sides were then pulled in at the rear and glued together with aliphatic glue as shown below.

This is a better shot of the finished tail post, which also shows the entire fuselage structure.

The completed structure was weighed in on the AccuLab scale at 18 grams (.63 oz) as shown below. Jack Hiner has advised me to go on and install the Speed 400 motor and landing gear and then stop work on the fuselage in order to build and cover the wing and tail next. At that point, a cursory balance check can be made to determine the desired location of the two servos in the fuselage.....................Tandy
