J-3 Cub Deck Inlay
Complete
Sue and I got up early this morning went to the
fitness center for our 1-1/2 hour work out at Arlington Memorial hospital.
We got back home around 9:00 a.m. I got a cup of coffee and immediately
started working on inlaying the forward deck on the J-3 Cub. I used water on
my finger tips to work each inlay piece with aliphatic glue on its perimeter
into its slot. Damp fingers helped to conform the soft balsa pieces in their
slots and to smooth out the glue on the top as well as inside. I finished
cutting and gluing in all twelve of the pieces as shown below. This will be
allowed to set and completely dry before I start trimming and sanding the
deck into a smooth convex surface.
Just for completeness, I took this picture from
the inside of the deck. This technique worked really well for
me.....................Tandy
