 Sailplane Construction Project Session #141

Comet Sailplane Project

Today I put a coat of clear doped on the wing, stab, elevators, sub fins, fin, and rudder. As you can see in the table below, I am now finished with doping the stab, elevators, sub fins, fin, and rudder. I did not dope the fuselage, hatch covers or cowl because I wanted to refit every thing first.

First I installed the landing gear, motor mounts, and the fuel tank as shown below.

In the picture below, you can see the silk cut away from the four holes where the attachment screws goes on each hatch cover. Both hatch covers are shown installed. Notice the very clean exits of the landing gear wire.

Because of the close tolerances on all of the holes in the back of the cowl, the epoxy had to be cleaned out and the back bulkhead of the cowl had to be sanded down some in order for the cowl to fit up against the firewall properly as shown below. You can see the fuel tank fill tube and overflow tube as well as the aluminum tube for the cowl drain.

This is a good right side view of the cowl fit.

This is a good overall shot of the entire fuselage. Tomorrow I put the last coat of clear dope on the wing, hatch covers, and cowl and the next to last coat of clear dope on the fuselage.................Tandy
